Spring Roundup: Air Force Football

We interrupt March Madness coverage with some Spring Football.

Air Force is looking to build upon its successful 9-4 season under first year head coach Troy Calhoun. This spring the focus will be on finding who will replace long time starters Chad Hall WR/RB/R and also QB Shaun Carney among others as Air Force brings back only 3 offensive starters in TE Travis Dekker, OG Nick Charles, and OT Keith Williams. So, it is safe to say that finding a solid two deep in spring ball is a top priority this spring along with finding play makers.

2007 Record: ………………9-4 (6-2 MWC, 2nd place)

Basic Offense: …………….Multiple

Basic Defense:…………….3-4

Lettermen Returning: …..23 (10 Off, 12 Def, 1 ST)

Lettermen Lost: ……………25 (14 Off, 10 Def, 1 ST)

Starters Returning:……….9 (3 Off, 5 Def., 1 ST

Starters Lost: ……………….15 (8 Off, 6 Def, 1 ST)

The defense is in a little better shape with 5 returning starters. They are Defensive End Ben Garland, Nose Guard Jared Marvin, Defensive End Ryan Kemp, Outside Linebacker Hunter Altman, and Strong Safety Chris Thomas. The front line of the Falcons should be solid next year, but their secondary and linebackers will need some help and this is what spring ball is for.

Potential playmakers look to be Ty Paffett and Sean Quintana at WR both recievers have little experience running the ball which is asked upon WR’s in the Falcon offense especially the Z back which is where Ty Paffett is scheduled to play. Other players who look to breakout look to be Shea Smith at QB and then there are multiple players at RB which starts with Savier Stephens and Brenton Byrd.
