Here is another week of who MWC teams want to win in order for teams to move up, and for chance if the Mountain West wants to get a second team into the BCS. I will not include Boise this week is because they are playing Idaho who is 2-8.
No. 11 Ohio State (8-2) at Illinois (5-5)
It’s strength versus strength when these two teams meet. Illinois’ offense averages a Big Ten-best 438 yards, while Ohio State tops the league in total D (285 ypg).
BYU and TCU should be rooting hard for Illinois, because when it comes down to it the last at large BCS spot could come down to Ohio State, Boise State and if a MWC team gets in there. The Buckeyes would be a near lock to get choosen over those two teams. Illinois has the speed to beat a sluggish Ohio State defense that plays bad against a spread offense. Also, freshman quarterback Terrelle Pryor is inexperienced and turnover prone this year, which makes this road game even more difficult.
No. 16 North Carolina (7-2) at Maryland (6-3)
College Park, MD
Is North Carolina ripe for an upset? The Terps have been tough at home this season with a perfect 5-0 mark, outscoring teams by a 153-82 margin. They’re also 3-0 against the Top 25.
North Carolina will get the benefit of the doubt because they are in a league with an automatic BCS bid, and move up with this win. A road game for UNC is tough and Maryland is 5-0 at home and this could be an upset if the Terps can win.
No. 13 Oklahoma State (8-2) at Colorado (5-5)
Colorado has lost its past three conference games against ranked teams by a margin of 126-28. The Buffs have won four of the past six meetings with OSU, but the teams haven’t met since 2005.
This is similar to the UNC versues Maryland game, with the exception that the Big XII is actually a good conference.
No. 19 Florida State (7-2) vs Boston College (6-3)
The running game should decide this one. BC is allowing a shade less than 102 rushing ypg, but Florida State owns one of the nation’s best rushing offenses (205 ypg).
Florida State is without five wide receivers after violating team rules which gives BC the edge to BC. A loss by FSU would just move the Seminoles too far to catchup to get ahead of a MWC who is consideration for an at large BCS spot.
