Week 4 Review

Oh my what a week, the Utes fall on their face after beating UCLA and then Wyoming gives up a season high of 33 points to Ohio, and BYU destroys a former unbeaten team in Air Force.

I figured that BYU would win, but the dominated Air Force and gave them their first lost of the year. Air Force was only able to run for 133 yards and pass for under 100 for the game. One noticable factor in the game was the third down conversion rate of 3-13 for Air Force. This game was a total surprise Air Force was not going to win but the way they were dominated and even without their best receiver in Austin Collie being held out of the game. The Cougars after two mishaps look to be back in form, or it could be the two games they lost were on the road.

This game was turnover mania with 7 by Wyoming and that included 5 picks by Karsten Sweed and Ohio also had 4 turnovers themselves. That is how Ohio was able to hang in this game, but the main reason Wyoming won was that they torched the Bobcats on the ground for 267 yards and that included 198 yards for Devin Moore and that was on only 19 carries, plus he had 2 scores. The rest of the bulk of rushing came from Wynel Seldon in 92 yards and one score. I was unable to see this game but it sure did seem ugly from 11 total turnovers, but I was surprised that Wyoming was able to comeback since they were down 23-6 in the third quarter. Wyoming’s offense is not known for quick striking, but their defense held up and the offense took care of the rest.

CSU is the only Mountain West team to not have won a game and is currently on a 10 game losing streak dating back to last year. Colorado State came out in front with an early lead of 17-3, but then Houston took over by scoring 21 third quarter points. Kenneth Fontenette 37 yard fumble return for a TD tied the game at 24 apiece and that was pretty much the end for CSU. The Rams played even with Houston, but they could not make the key plays to score points, and look for thier losing streak to possibly hit 11 games when the Rams go on the road to play TCU next week.
